Jesus gets credit for all sorts of things that he never said and this is a problem. We have a tendency to attach attach our own made-up ideas and cultural experiences to Jesus and some of these ideas have the potential to shape our relationship with God and with people.
Or perhaps worse, we fill in the blank with what we want Jesus to say and create a Jesus that shares our values and priorities.
If we give Jesus credit for an idea that wasn’t his, we assign kingdom value to that idea and this can destroy relationships and give us a distorted of what it means to follow Jesus.
